Natural acne treatments are a great way to treat, heal and repair acne prone skin.
There are so many “zit zapping” acne products on the market – enough to make your mind boggle! But the problem with 90 percent of these commercial acne washes is that they are designed to treat a very specific market, either teenage or oily skin by default. These may be great for teenage Disney Actresses or people with greasy skin, but are often very drying for people that don’t fit into these two categories!
The harsh chemical ingredients designed with a “napalm” style approach towards acne can be especially irritating to sensitive or dry skins.
And what about acne scars? How often do you see advertisements on television talking about acne scars and how to deal with them? Hardly ever!
That’s where natural acne recipes come to the rescue….they are just as potent when it comes to targeting and destroying acne bacteria, but also nourish, balance heal and repair skin. Natural acne treatments can be made at home in minutes with easy to find ingredients and help to diminish acne scars giving you clearer softer radiant skin.
Like the recipes in the book Natural Home Made Skin Care Recipes (has over 20 Acne specific recipes and 180 others) the recipe below is a super duper easy moisturizing wash for acne. Using just three ingredients, you can make a wash or by adding a fourth ingredient – a blackhead eliminating scrub.
So here is just one of the recipes you can use for acne. There are many others you can make depending on your skin type and if you have other skin issues you’d like to resolve at the same time.
Natural Acne Wash
1 tablespoon extra virgin coconut oil (make sure it’s cold pressed)
Coconut oil is soooo good for skin. It’s naturally antibacterial (of course) but it’s also rich in repairing vitamins, antioxidants and essential fatty acids to repair scars and soothe redness.
1 tablespoon honey (preferably UMF active honey)
Honey is loaded with antimicrobial properties, its healing repairing while softening and hydrating skin at the same time. UMF honey is like the 500 pound gorilla of acne fighting natural ingredients. It’s a little more costly but lasts a LONG time if you are not eating it on your toast every morning (which by the way is also a great thing to do for you well being and skin from the inside out). Use honey as a mask and wash for a healing wash.
3 drops of tea tree (melaleuca) oil and/or lavender oil. This helps to blend the oil and honey together as does lemon juice (see below).
Tea tree is a very potent antiseptic and antimicrobial oil. It really kicks butt when it comes to dealing to any infections! Add this to your everyday face wash, shampoo (for dandruff) or body wash for an antibacterial kick. Lavender is VERY soothing and calming and is also antibacterial. I have mentioned it here as its a complimentary optional extra you can add.
Blend these ingredients together and use as a face wash twice daily. You can leave the mixture on as a mask for several minutes before washing off.
- Optional Scrub: 1 tablespoon brown or demerara sugar (can also add a pinch of salt)
- Other optional additions for oily skin: lemon juice, grapefruit juice or apple cider vinegar.
- Stimulating ginger: Add grated ginger for extra stimulation and vitamins to promote the healing process.
- Turmeric powder: A pinch of turmeric powder is and added antibacterial ingredient.
- Soothing scrub ingredient: add a teaspoon of ground oatmeal to soothe redness and acne pain.
